Controllers & Tax Services (CTS) is responsible for the accounting, financial reporting, and associated internal controls for MUFG Union Bank and the U.S. Operations of MUFG. CTS strives to be a valued business advisor and reliable steward of financial information who empowers MUFG to become the world's most trusted financial group.

Summer Analyst Program Overview

During your ten weeks in the CTS Accounting Summer Analyst Program, you will gain hands-on exposure to accounting and banking and will be challenged with meaningful projects. This program will provide a strong foundation in business finance and the opportunity to develop skills necessary to excel in a global financial services organization.

Top-performing summer analysts may qualify to receive a Full time Analyst job offer to join CTS after graduation. Our CTS Accounting Summer Analyst Program is also a proven route into the CTS Rotational Program, which provides two years of additional accounting experience while enabling you to pursue your CPA license.

Office Locations

This position will be located in Oakland, California.

Supervision & Mentorship

Each student is assigned a mentor in addition to their actual manager. The mentor will provide goals and professional development guidance and conduct performance reviews as a commitment to our summer analysts. At the end of the program, you will obtain a better understanding of your group and how your role can play a part in the success of the bank.

Team and Position Description

. Participate in product design tasks of moderate complexity which may research and analysis.

. Perform system analysis and document program logic, flow charting, testing, debugging, and documentation.

. Work independently and with tech leads to review programming tasks.

. Provide analysis of problems and recommend solution.

. Able to work well with others and be willing to be challenged given a task at hand.

. Works within established procedures to develop, test, implement, and maintain application software.

. Debug and troubleshoot production environment under the direction of supervisors.

. Support the analysis and resolution of help desk tickets and performs maintenance for assigned applications. - Regular attendance and timeliness is required

. The ideal candidate is a currently enrolled college student (rising senior, current senior, or graduate student).

. Generally a GPA of 3.0 or higher that will complete their degree requirements in December 2018 or Spring 2019.

. Desire to learn Java, JEE, and Web Development - SQL and retention database


. Must be currently enrolled in a college program, with an expected graduation date of December 2019 or May/June 2020

. Accounting major with CPA eligibility at graduation is required

. Solid academic standing; generally with a GPA of 3.0 or higher

. Microsoft Office Suite proficiency (MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Outlook)

. Strong verbal and written communications skills are required

. Excellent organization and time management skills with attention to detail

. Self-starter with the ability to synthesize ambiguous information and develop creative solutions

. Ability to work efficiently and effectively on team-oriented projects or independently, as needed

. Must possess individual initiative, self-discipline and integrity, leadership qualities

Additional Qualifications Include:

. Excellent computer skills specifically with Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, and PowerPoint)

. Excellent organization and time management skills with attention to detail

. Self-starter with the ability to synthesize ambiguous information

. Strong verbal/written communication skills

. Ability to work equally well on self-managed or team-oriented projects

. Knowledge of relational database theory to include at a minimum:

. Table structures

. Join methodologies

. Advanced querying

. Referential Integrity

. Knowledge of Project Management methodologies

. Requirements development and use case testing
