Job Summary

SUMMARY

The Product Engineering Manager direct all areas of design and development of new products and the upgrading and maintenance of existing product line to ensure the ongoing quality and superiority of Weil-McLain products in the marketplace.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES (ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS)

. Product design, improvement, and maintenance

. Evaluate proposed product design changes in regards to industry standards (eg CSA, UL, ANSI, ASME and state and local codes); carry out testing and certification as necessary prior to approval

. Evaluate proposed product design changes for value to the organization, extent of resources required, and overall priority vs. other changes in queue or in process

. Align resources with the project plans and insure that resources are managed to meet agreed-upon objectives

. Oversee and manage a team of product engineers, designers, and testing lab technicians. Selects, develops, trains and supervises staff

. Oversee the product design change process to assure completion in accordance with design standards and solid engineering principles/procedures

. Facilitate and enhance communication between Engineers as well as all other cross-functional departments to assure design changes are carried out in an efficient manner

. Work closely with operations and manufacturing engineering to facilitate sound design for manufacturing and assembly practices

. Personally perform major sustaining engineering projects, serving as the responsible engineer and/or project manager.

. Provide timely communication to Sr. Management in regards to sustaining engineering project status

. Oversee certification requirements of Sustaining Engineering lab and resources; maintain certifications as required

. Travel to customer sites and evaluate product application and performance

. Provide proper training and guidance for improvement of engineering change process

. Develops, determines and implements policies, procedures and programs for engineering and supports development of program management standards

PRINCIPAL ACCOUNTABILITIES

Ensure the following functions are performed by the Product Engineering Department:

. Current product development, improvement, and cost reduction

. Continued testing, upgrading and maintenance of existing product lines.

. Proper product design and highly accurate product drawings and Bills of Material required for sound quality manufactured products.

. Ensure ongoing standards compliance of all product lines.

. Provide technical support and feedback to all other Weil-McLain departments.

. Ensure projects stay within budget and time constraints

EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE

. BS degree in Mechanical Engineering or Electrical Engineering

. Master's degree in Engineering is a plus.

. 10 years' experience in Engineering

. 5 years' experience in a management role leading technical professionals

. Ideally, relevant experience in the boiler industry and knowledge of hydronic technologies and related HVAC standards.

. Experience with Solid Works is a plus

. Experience with JDE recommended

. Demonstrated leadership skills with emphasis on team development.

. Demonstrated project management skills.

. Proficient PC skills.

. Normal office working environment.

. Must be available for international and domestic travel.
