Position: Light Rail Technology Support Specialist

Department: Technology

Reports To: Director of Technology Services

Salary: DOQ

Provides infrastructure and systems support for Light Rail Real Time and SCADA systems. Acts as an Embedded Technology support specialist for the Light Rail department. Acts a liaison between Technology department and other departments within the Agency.

Essential Job Functions: (Duties listed are not intended to be all inclusive nor to limit duties that might reasonably be assigned.)

  • Perform ongoing network infrastructure management along the Light Rail alignment and at the Norfolk Tide facilities including structured cabling, switching, routing, and Firewall administration.
  • Support server hardware and specialized software dedicated to the operation of the SCADA systems.
  • Analyze and resolve technical problems for established Real Time and SCADA systems.
  • Perform basic Postgres database systems maintenance as specified by the vendor in support of the SCADA systems.
  • Provide incident and emergency response through troubleshooting and system recovery to the operational state; including after-hours, holidays, and weekends.
  • Maintain Uninterruptable Power Supply systems along the Light Rail alignment and at the Norfolk Tide Facilities.
  • Maintain CCTV equipment systems along the Light Rail alignment and at the Norfolk Tide Facilities.
  • Deliver availability and performance monitoring for the supporting infrastructure.
  • Perform preventative maintenance in accordance with HRT's established State of Good Repair guidelines.
  • Compile, write, diagram, and maintain written documentation of all HRT computer configurations and network architectures.
  • Support computer, printer, and other Client Technology related equipment; provide end-user assistance where required.
  • Provide ad hoc user training as required to help customers effectively utilize HRT computerized systems.
  • Participate in Incident Response activities as per established HRT guidelines
  • Coordinate network security activity with management and IT Security Engineer. Maintain cyber security awareness, support Endpoint Protection, respond to cyber security incidents in accordance with established policies and procedures.
  • Ensure adherence to HRT minimum hardware/software requirements; participate in cyber security reviews, assessments, and audits.
  • Perform technology records and inventory records management in accordance with Agency's Policy and Procedures.
  • Maintain awareness of advances in information technology and recommend modifications to HRT systems as required.
  • Document all work activities in a work order management system; participate in Change Management process as per established guidelines
  • Manage records created and received in compliance with the Hampton Roads Transit Records Management Policy and Procedures.
  • Responsible for maintaining a general awareness of HRT's EMS
  • Responsible for handling all related job responsibilities in accordance to HRT's Environmental Policy, relevant EMS Standard Operating Procedures, and Emergency Management Plan
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Required Knowledge, Abilities and Skills essential to Job Functions:

Required Software/Hardware Knowledge and Skills essential to Job Functions:

Proficiency in using listed systems and software applications are essential to perform assigned work duties. Cross-discipline problem solving skills associated with employed technologies is expected. Software usage relevant to job duties will be evaluated.

A combination of 5+ years of experience to include the following areas:

  • Networking support (switching, routing, Firewalls)
  • Server hardware (provisioning, maintenance, upgrade)
  • Microsoft Windows Server (provisioning, operations, security baseline maintenance)
  • Excellent troubleshooting skills
  • Technical documentation skills
  • Strong analytical skills
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Experience with A workorder management systems

Training and/or Education: Associate Degree in Computer Science, Engineering or a related technical discipline

Required Experience: 5 years working in Information Technology support with emphasis on Real Time and SCADA system support in mission critical applications Or the equivalent combination of education and work experience.

Licenses or Certificates: Virginia Driver's License
