Job Description
Entry Level position responsible for sourcing and timely procurement of quality materials, goods and services. The primary responsibilities will be to: develop and implement sourcing strategies while managing the business relationships with suppliers of assigned commodities; procure parts to meet deadlines for new product introduction and current production. Negotiate, execute, and effectively manage supplier agreements. Establish and manage inventory levels throughout the supply chain in a cost efficient manner considering the total cost of acquisition/ownership and inventory accuracy and integrity.
  • Early Supplier Involvement. Coordinate with Engineering to engage suppliers in design/process improvements in the concept phase of product development.
  • Recommend existing or potential sources of supply and insure that material is only procured from approved Gleason suppliers.
  • Identify long lead time and/or critical components posing risk for Gleason and drive potential secondary sources.
  • Develop, recommend and implement risk mitigation strategies for single, sole source or high business risk components.
  • Understand cost drivers for commodities managed.
  • Negotiate and manage kanban, consignment or supply agreements with suppliers.
  • Identify and execute continuous productivity, cost and/or business process improvements within supply chain.
  • Manage business relationships and supplier performance metrics.
  • Lead (in conjunction with production and service) actions and continuous improvement in the Cycle Count program to drive Inventory Accuracy.
  • Initiate regular, periodic supplier meetings to review performance, new opportunities, cost reductions, etc.
  • Lead teams in new supplier qualifications when a need has been identified.
  • Develop asset reclamation strategies for inventory, scrap, and/or equipment.
  • Develop and author various procedures and work instructions where required to ensure best practices are maintained and redundancies are in place for all critical activities.
  • Provide weekly past due reports
  • Process cycle count results and maintain monthly status report
  • Provide Vendor OTD reports monthly
  • Maintain and post E&O and Scrap monthly
  • Process ITLs as assigned
  • Receive in and stock material in proper storage location
Required Skills
  • Demonstrated application knowledge in purchase price cost analyses.
  • Must be able to manage inventory levels. Hands-on utilization of MRP, kanban, cycle counting, pareto and root cause analysis
  • Working exposure to ERP business systems (SAP preferred)
  • Intermediate skill demonstration within the MS Office (Excel, Word, Outlook)
  • Knowledge and application of ISO9001 and ISO14001 standards
  • Knowledge of Lean manufacturing concepts (Continuous Improvement, Kaizen Methodologies, Kanban Pull Replenishment, Standard Work, and 5S)
  • Demonstrated alertness and planning for proper/safe material handling at all times
  • Excellent physical condition ability to lift heavy (50 pounds), awkward packages and the proper handling of sensitive and/or precision materials, devices and components.
Required Experience
  • BS/BA Degree preferred. Associates degree paired with 2 years of experience accepted.
