We are working on a major strategic infrastructure initiative to improve application resiliency and lower operational risk to meet regulatory commitments for a major regional New York Bank. As part of this initiative, we will migrate its entire database estate to a new hardware platform.

Responsibilities:

Migrate approximately 6,000 database instances for 950 unique applications from Legacy to new HW platform over 12 to 18 months period. This includes:

Oracle (Exadata and stand-alone) - 3,000 production and non-production databases

SQL Server - 2,700 production and non-production SQL Server instances

Sybase ASE and IQ - 250 production and non-production databases

UDB - 50 production and non-production databases

Provisioning of the databases will be performed via automation utilizing Database as a Service (DBaaS) toolset.

Migrations to be performed utilizing the bank's toolset or vendor toolset as appropriate.

  • Work with application teams to conduct the assessments and gather business requirements for data migration
  • Work across multiple functional areas to understand data usage, interdependencies, and implications of each migration
  • Assist application teams with selection of appropriate database deployment patterns and completion of necessary design artifacts
  • Work with Project team to plan and schedule the migrations into appropriate migration waves based on application needs, priorities and capacity availability
  • Prepare data migration plans including key milestones, migration risks, rollback strategy, quality controls and business sign-off details
  • Manage identified risks, monitor and mitigate potential impacts
  • Perform source system data analysis in order to manage source to target data mapping
  • Perform performance tuning and query optimization to ensure adequate database performance in target environment
  • Coordinate and execute migrations including testing and production rollout
  • Triage issues and provide post-migration support*Assist with decommissioning Legacy databases after the migration
  • Provide overall project management, progress tracking, communications and status reporting
  • Adhere to and enforce bank's database security standards

Qualifications:

  • 5+ years of experience with Oracle RDBMS, SQL and PLSQL
  • 3+ years of experience with Unix/Linux knowledge including Shell scripting
  • 5+ years' experience managing multi-terabyte Oracle database environments
  • 5+ Data Warehouse experience
  • Experience with Oracle Performance Monitoring & Tuning, including Exadata specific performance features
  • Understanding of Oracle Optimizer, optimizer parameters, parsing mechanism and how optimizer influences in controlling, stabilizing execution plans
  • Thorough knowledge of Dimensional Data Modeling and traditional ER modeling and leveraging Performance Impacts on DWH systems
  • Bachelor's degree
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills*Banking/Financial Services industry experience is a plus
  • Effective interpersonal skills
  • Exceptional troubleshooting and analytical problem-solving skills
  • Strong communications skills and collaborative work style
