Overview The Supply Chain Manager's main responsibility is to ensure his/her team provides an uninterrupted flow of materials for their assigned products while optimizing total supply chain costs and fulfillment targets.
The position provides leadership to the department in terms of direction and establishment of goals and objectives, developing employees by providing coaching and mentoring; sharing best practices in purchasing and Supply Chain Management.
The Supply Chain Manager is part of the "center-led" Supply Chain Council with a mission to standardize processes, leverage best practices and coordinate the implementation of new systems and process improvements
Responsibilities RESPONSIBILITIES
Strategy and Objectives
  • Works closely with Marketing and Strategic Sourcing to understand the business strategies for product lines and strategically aligns Patterson procurement practices and supply chain in support of the business strategy.
  • Member of Supply Chain Council. Works closely with corporate Supply Chain Mgmt. on initiatives that leverage best practices, process standardization and improvements, Standardized metrics for reporting, and deployment of new technology
  • Establishes metrics that departmental goals and objectives can be derived.
  • Works closely with the marketing and finance departments to establish potential market growth and standard cost projections for annual budget review.
Product/Commodity Management
  • Develop and track key performance indicators on market conditions and trends as they relate Patterson products. Report results to appropriate Patterson Mgmt.
  • Guide the relationship with strategic sourcing (marketing) so that it is a true partnership. Act as a champion to drive best practices such as purchasing decisions including Total Supply Chain cost analysis, and Product line rationalization
  • Oversee the processes of launching new products into the supply chain
    • Vendor management
    • Vendor performance, performance improvement
    • Procurement Execution
  • Responsible for all of the processes surrounding Vendor Management and Purchasing for their products. Provides direction and oversight to Buyer/Planners for all of these processes. Establishes performance goals and objectives. Drives best practices, tools and techniques. Processes include:
  • Drives continuous improvement initiatives to improve supplier performance
  • Develops collaborative/partnering relationships with key suppliers, including objectives and measures, to promote processes that will reduce lead times and costs and insure product and service quality goals are met.
  • Participates in vendor negotiations and business reviews. Provides guidance to Buyer/Planners and marketing to ensure best total cost is achieved, setting and measuring inventory and service level performance
Supervisory
  • Responsible for the overall direction, coordination and evaluation of department. Carries out leadership responsibilities in accordance to company policies, procedures, safety, and applicable laws.
  • Responsibilities include: interviewing; hiring and training employees; planning assisting and directing work; appraising performance; rewarding and disciplining employees; addressing complaints and resolving problems.
  • Provides ongoing training and mentoring to applicable staff to develop and encourage their technical and operational performance. Meet with appropriate staff on a timely basis for performance evaluations and goal setting.
  • Ensures company standard practices and procedures are followed in connection with all Purchasing department functions.

Qualifications Required:
  • Bachelor s degree in Business or related field
  • 10+ years materials/purchasing/supply chain management experience in related industry with increasing responsibilities including:
    • 3+ years management/supervisory experience
    • Vendor Management and Negotiation experience including developing partnerships with vendors
    • Material planning and forecasting using ERP tools preferably SAP
    • Proven track record in inventory management - optimization and fulfillment including excess and obsolete management
  • Experience with SAP or other ERP systems as well as advanced knowledge of their functionality.
  • Project team leadership/management experience
  • Deep understanding of Patterson end-to-end supply chain
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills. Ability to work and influence others from different functional areas and levels within and outside the organization
  • Excellent organizational, decision making and analytical skills.
  • Able to develop and give effective presentations to different groups
  • Strong management and team building skills.
  • Able to develop employees with coaching and mentoring
  • Strong vendor management skills including, negotiations, performance management
  • Financial Analysis skills with a an understanding of total supply chain costs
  • Advanced knowledge of purchasing and supply chain best practices. Able to share/teach the concepts to employees and other functions
  • Strong inventory management knowledge including material planning tools and techniques - preferably SAP
  • Knowledge of process improvement tools and techniques (lean, 6 sigma etc.)
  • Knowledge of contract/purchasing law
  • Proficiency in MS Office - (Word, Excel, Power Point Etc.)
Preferred:
  • Master s degree
  • APICS and/or ISM Certifications
  • International buying and logistics experience
  • Knowledge of and/or experience in a Distribution/Logistics environment
