Job Description

The Systems Engineer - Connected Lighting Solutions will develop smart connected hazardous and industrial lighting solutions for global markets. The primary focus is best in class LED lighting management systems with smart lighting controls for optimizing energy consumption, facility safety, and long term reliability. This position will lead a multidiscipline technical team for new product development and product enhancement programs. The ideal candidate will be highly self-driven with a breadth of technical experience encompassing electronics, software, wireless technology, solid state lighting, system engineering, product certifications, and multidiscipline project management.

Job Responsibilities

. Define system architecture for smart lighting solutions for industrial and hazardous locations

. Oversee definition and development of electronic components, sensors, control modules, and wireless smart controls, mobile applications, management software, and IIoT implementations

. Full product development process participation - concept, product specifications, design, supplier specifications, product validation, and production launch

. Translating marketing voice of customer research and specifications into product designs

. Maintain a working understanding of global safety certification requirements for Appleton products

. Research and apply innovative technology directed at creating new products

. Leadership and technical mentoring of junior engineers and global engineering resources

. Design control, bill of material management, tracking and controlling design costs

. Support project management from inception to launch, coordinating activities off a multidiscipline global team through Emerson's phase-gate process

. 25% Travel

Basic Qualifications

. Bachelors of Science in Electrical, Computer Engineering, or Computer Science

. At least 5 years' related experience

. Successful development and introduction of smart technology products into end market

. Experience with electronics product or sub-component development

. Knowledge of wireless connectivity, M2M technology, IEEE802.15.4, Zigbee, WirelessHART

. Experience developing products for extreme operating conditions with long operating life

. Working knowledge of project management processes and tools; MS Office, MS Project

. Excellent communication skills

Preferred Qualifications

. Experience in hazardous location product design.

. Working knowledge of LED lighting technology

. Oversight software/firmware development and related processes

. Masters of Science in Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Product Development

. Working knowledge and familiarity with applicable UL, CSA and IEC standards
