We're revolutionizing the way people monitor their glucose levels with our new sensing technology. The Senior Scientist III will be expected to independently conceive, execute, and communicate novel multi-disciplinary research or development strategies that achieve project and area goals. This person will generate new scientific proposals and lead those efforts.

They will also anticipate and critically evaluate scientific or regulatory advances. This person will serve as a lead scientist on his/her own project and contribute scientific insights into multiple other projects. They will consistently demonstrate excellent record of accomplishment of scientific and business objectives.

What you'll work onPlans and executes laboratory research. Maintains broad knowledge of state-of-the-art principles and theories.Initiates, directs and executes pre-clinical scientific research and/or development strategies in research and/or development.

Investigates the feasibility of applying a wide variety of scientific principles and concepts to potential inventions, products and problems.Develop productive collaborations and communication with other groups, across scientific disciplines, and with scientists outside of Abbott. Expertise in field is sought within the company and possibly externally.

Interact with suppliers to resolve scientific and technical challenges.Assume a high level of responsibility in setting and achieving team goals. Independently identify and communicate issues and opportunities.

Guide formation of research and development strategy and tacticsEstablishes and reviews plans for multiple complex projects or activities; conducts and participates in design reviews & develops analytical method Plans resource allocation and distribution. Holds teams accountable for meeting milestones. Recognizes the need for new or additional resources and escalates to leadership as needed.

Makes major contributions to scientific literature and conferences. May act as spokesperson on corporate research and development and advise top management. May participate in development of patent applications.

Interfaces with various departments and serves as internal consultant.Participates in Lab Safety, and may lead or recommend new procedures.Keep accurate and current records of research and/or project activities according to Abbott policies.

Responsible for implementing and maintaining the effectiveness of the quality system.May be responsible to hire and manage up to 4 junior to mid-level scientists. May lead large and/or multiple project teams, providing direction on work and activities.

Provides consultation to junior-level scientists or project teams on highly-complex technical issues.Required QualificationsDoctorate Degree ( 19 years) with 4 years experienceBachelors Degree ( 16 years)10 years experience in research in industrial or academic setting. Familiar with standard laboratory techniques.

Able to present orally and in writing at a professional level.Able to perform proficiently under applicable regulatory requirements.Preferred QualificationsHighly effective writer and oral communicator of research, technical and regulatory issues.

Presents original work at internal and external meetings. Competent in authorship of peer reviewed scientific papers and/or patents.Deep subject matter expertise in the application/understanding of regulations and standards affecting IVDs and Biologics; remains current to what's happening in the industry Able to interpret, and implement work that comprehends the regulations into the technical decisions.
