Summary:

The competent Nurse, in the same or similar clinicalsetting, practices independently and demonstrates an awareness ofall relevant aspects of a situation. Provides routine and complexcare, with the ability to on long-range goals or plans. Continuesto develop the ability to cope with and manage contingencies ofclinical nursing. Makes appropriate assignments and delegates toother care providers as a means to help manage the clinicalsituation.

CHRISTUS Santa RosaHospital - Medical Center (CSRH-MC), located in the South TexasMedical Center, provides a high-level of care through compassionatehands, experience physicians, and advanced technology, includingthe da Vinci Surgical Robot System and the Mako Robotic-ArmAssisted System. Services at the 178- bed facility include AcuteCare of the Elderly Unit, cardiology, diabetes care, emergencycare, general surgery, kidney transplantation at the CHRISTUSTransplant Institute, orthopedics, outpatient rehabilitation andaquatic therapy, Senior Behavioral Health Center, urology, and theWound Care and Hyperbaric Center.

Responsibilities:

Meets expectations of the applicable OneCHRISTUSCompetencies: Leader of Self, Leader of Others, or Leader ofLeaders.
Consistent with the ANA Scope and Standardsof Practice, provides nursing care utilizing the nursing process,including assessment, diagnosis, planning, intervention andevaluation for assigned patients.
Addressesincreasingly complex psychological, emotional, cultural, and socialneeds of patient and families in accordance with their level ofpractice.
Using the appropriate protocol, administersmedications and treatments; monitors for side-effects andeffectiveness of the treatment prescribed.
Documentspatient history, symptoms, medication, and care given.
Assess learning needs and provides education to patients, familymembers and/or care givers; identify issues and resources.

Coaches on tools andtechniques for checking, cross checking and validating orders toensure accuracy

Standard III. UnitOperations
Plans, directs, and evaluates the overallnursing care and functions in a particular nursing unit during anassigned shift
Demonstrates good stewardship in properuse and maintenance of equipment and Supplies
Assessesdepartmental staffing needs; actively participates in resourcingefforts.
Educates and trains others on theoperations, ethics, and regulations within the industry

Incorporates patient safetypractices/guidelines to promote a safe environment resulting inpositive patient outcomes

Describes functions and features of thesystem used to enter, validate, update and forward medicalorders
Discusses common errors, their sources andprocedures for correcting
Explains considerations forentering and following standing orders
Differentiatesbetween standing orders and preprinted orders and considerationsfor each

Patient Chart Reading andInterpretation
Describes experiences in reading andinterpreting patient charts for patients on unit and under owncare
Reviews patients' charts for completion andaccuracy; identifies and alerts to mistakes or omissions
Recognizes unexpected readings and alerts nursing or medicalstaff
Relates examples of mis-readings ormisinterpretations and lessons learned
Reviews,discusses and validates own interpretation with others

Patient Safety
Shares experienceswith ensuring safety for one or more patient groups orsettings
Explains key features of safety guidelinesand procedures for those groups and settings
Listensand responds to safety inquiries from patients and familymembers
Recognizes and addresses physiological andpsychological signs of problems
Describesconsiderations for patients who can cause to harm to self, versusharm to others
Utilizes appropriate systems todocument misses and near misses, participates in immediateinvestigating, analysis and reporting in real-time

Requirements:

  • Bachelor of Science Degree in Nursing,preferred.
  • 1 year of experience in the relatednursing specialty preferred.
  • BLSrequired
  • RN License in state of employment orcompact
