On the legal side, the rules are being written now, and we're the team charged with helping guide the company on legal and risk considerations as we unlock the future. We're a collegial group in which every role matters, and you'll have an impact on high stakes decisions, working with technical and development teams solving some of the hardest engineering challenges of our generation. This position will report to our Senior Managing Counsel, Enterprise Safety, Regulatory and Compliance.

WHAT YOU'LL BE DOING:Advise on applicable AV regulations at the local, state, and federal levelAdvise on federal and state vehicle and driver regulations that impact AVsDraft materials for submission to federal and state regulatorsSupport AV testing, ridehailing and/or delivery teams in meeting their objectives and ensure compliance with regulatory requirementsIdentify areas of compliance risk and implement processes to meet regulatory requirements and ensure ongoing complianceAnalyze and communicate regulatory requirements for market entry, including traffic and motor vehicle lawsReview and draft legal documents and advise employees on legal and regulatory issues related to vendors, projects, and marketingProvide legal counsel for on-road safety initiatives and autonomous vehicle behaviorUnderstand the business environment and use analytical skills and experience to set regulatory priorities, and recommend options to minimize regulatory risk while meeting business objectivesAdvice and counsel to business decision makers on strategic issues with regulatory dimensionsCollaborate with engineers and other partners on AV safetyAnalyze regulations and advocate with regulatory agencies, including in rulemaking and adjudicatory proceedingsWHAT YOU MUST HAVE:Experienced attorney (holding a law degree) with 8+ years doing regulatory and/or compliance work in a top law firm and/or in-house legal departmentMember of a State barStrong, demonstrated interest in technology and what Cruise does; ability to relate with engineers and get in the detailsAbility to collaborate in a team environment and cross-functionallyAbility to manage and prioritize multiple projects with short deadlines simultaneouslyHighly responsive and service oriented with excellent legal and business judgmentBONUS POINTS!Data and engineering counseling experienceKnowledge and experience with NHTSA, CPUC, DMV, or other transportation or robotics regulators Crisis management Technical undergraduate degree*USA based remote applicants welcome, California working hours requiredThe salary range for this position is $153,000 - $225,000. Compensation will vary depending on location, job-related knowledge, skills, and experience. You may also be offered a bonus, long-term incentives, and benefits.
