We are looking for a Head of Technical Underwriting Liability - North America in New York or ChicagoYour Team The North American Liability team offers a wide range of liability insurance solutions. These include the following coverages: Primary, Umbrella and Excess, Environmental and Multinational. We serve a diverse client list, which includes, but is not limited to, manufacturers, hotels, retail, business services and and technology companies.

The Impact You Will Have Reporting to the Senior Vice President - Head of Liability, you will join the team as a Head of Technical Underwriting Liability - North America. You will lead a manageable, experienced team that provides underwriting guidance, planning and strategy development for Liability - North America. This team also provides data analytics to measure, analyze, illustrate and guide performance.

You will participate in both the annual planning and reinsurance placement processes. Technical Underwriting: Liability North America includes National Accounts Excess, Multi-National, Reverse Flow, Environmental Liability and some Primary General Liability in the United States and Canada. Some of your specific responsibilities could include:Technical Underwriting Support for Underwriter: Strengthening risk selection, risk assessment and the proper application of coverage, exclusions, terms and conditions.

Upkeep, implementation and articulation of underwriting guidelines and positions as well as compliance rules.Underwriting training and referral process.Researching and articulating emerging trends on a regular basis.

Underwriting AuthorityManaging the authority delegation process and improving clarity, simplification, distribution and articulation of underwriting guidelines and authority.Streamlining the referrals to the Global Product Group Leaders.Underwriting QualityCoordinating and conducting underwriting audit file reviews, including accommodating reinsurance audits.

Publishing and articulating strategies for important findings.Implementing and measuring changes arising out of the audits.Communication with the Global Chief Underwriting OfficeCommunicating regularly with the global line of business leaders to ensure consistency in underwriting.

Ensuring that the underwriters are informed of underwriting guideline developments and changes.Underwriting TrainingLeading and supporting continuous learning for underwriters regarding new underwriting approaches, changes in underwriting rules, strategic directions, emerging trends and compliance.Work with your Technical Underwriting Team to manage the following:Portfolio SteeringBuilding, measuring and improving underwriting strategies based upon performance results, underwriting insights and economic and market trends.

Utilizing data analytics to support book management and shifts in underwriting.Illustrating the results of portfolio management by using tools such as Excel, Salesforce, Foundry and Power Point.Engaging in projects that further our understanding of risk.

PricingFacilitating calibration and tool usability by the field underwriters to ensure precise decision-making and execution.Assessing the quality of the pricing tool and its output of data for purposes of precision and portfolio steering.Calibrating the tool in conjunction with the actuaries.

Working with the Head of Liability to suggest target pricing for underwriters.Planning ProcessDriving the annual financial planning process with the Regional Head of Liability and the Global CUO.Reinsurance ProcessCoordinating with other departments to collect data and information for the treaty submission.

Compliance and Product Management OversightEnsuring the proper usage of, and compliance with, form and rate filings.Communicating with the field underwriters regarding changes in forms, regulations or rating plans.Working with Legal and Compliance on product development.

OperationsCoordinationWorking closely with the Operations leaders to coordinate the underwriters and the underwriting and technical assistants for the management of underwriting support tasks.Underwriting Platform Management Coordination with System DevelopersElectronic file documentation and pricing systems.Data Quality/Entry Improvement Support.

Data analytics and front door metrics.A future global platform.Systems Training.What You'll Bring to the Role10+ years of in-depth knowledge of Liability risks and experience training underwriters on underwriting hazards and emerging trends, risk selection, risk analysis and decision-making; Experience liaising with Global Liability Leaders around the world on authority information and risk analysis;Work with Praedicat on emerging trends and articulate them to the field; Update information in order to maintain underwriting guidelines and articulate changes to the underwriters;In-depth knowledge of pricing tool functionality, including the inner workings of the tool and the ability to analyze the resulting data and create strategies that drive profitability;Acting as a liaison with the actuaries to assure that the pricing tool is calibrated and providing accurate results;Day-to-day leadership of a minimum of 3 employees, including outlining goals and assessing performance, creating development plans and coaching and mentoring staff;Experience creating goals for all of the Liability Underwriters and providing monthly information to monitor progress, including training those on the data analytics team to ask the right questions to improve our performance and utilize data to achieve that goal;Experience working on the planning P & L for finance for the following year, with the ability to provide data, either on an ad hoc or regular basis, to other leaders in the company as well as reinsurers so that results and successful alignment are accurate and accessible;Working knowledge of all tools available including Radar, Salesforce, Foundry, Excel (advanced knowledge) and Power Point to illustrate the data analytics and performance of the team based upon the data;Outstanding technical skills with the ability to analyze complex data/information from multiple sources;The ability to build and foster relationships internally across the organization and externally with our broker partners;Ability to express ideas and messages clearly, with respect to the audience/level of management, both written and verbally;Ability to manage projects (milestone and task planning, managing resources, project controlling, monitoring, and reporting, moderation techniques) and to develop solutions while considering complex stakeholder structures and requirements; andBachelor's degree.The annualized base pay range for this role is $134,400 - $264,352.

The annual base salary range represents a nationwide market range. The actual salary for this position may be above and will be determined by a number of factors, including the scope, complexity and location of the role; the skills, education, training, credentials and experience of the candidate. The base pay is just one component of the AzC total compensation package.
