About the Role:The Discovery Chemistry Principal Scientist, will serve as a senior chemist on project teams, contributing synthetic and medicinal chemistry advances to progress projects from hit identification. Reporting to Director of Discovery Chemistry, the Discovery Chemistry Principal Scientist will serve as a senior chemist on project teams, contributing synthetic and medicinal chemistry advances to progress projects from hit identification through nomination of development candidates.

This role will foster a culture of scientific excellence, rigorous innovation, collaboration, and teamwork. This individual will have significant experience in the pharmaceutical industry and a track record of scientific achievement, ideally having identified development candidates. This individual will be expected to train, supervise and mentor internal medicinal chemists and may direct the activities of CRO partners.

Responsibilities Include:Develop SAR for drug discovery programs and collaborate with project leaders to drive small molecule programs from HTS through development candidate nomination.Serve as a departmental expert in analyzing, interpreting and visualizing scientific data.May manage internal and external (contract research organization) resources to deliver high quality compounds in an efficient manner.

Design and execute complex chemical syntheses to deliver high quality molecules for biological assays.Develop new intellectual property and co-author patent applications and peer-reviewed publications.Identify, develop, and evaluate new technologies to enhance productivity and efficiency across the chemistry department.

Partner with structural biologists, computational scientists and related disciplines to design novel small molecules to achieve program objectives.Oversee preparation of key findings and present at scientific meetings, conferences and to internal/external stakeholders.Model SpringWorks Values to drive a collaborative function that embraces change and drives excellence.

Perform other duties and responsibilities as assigned.About You: Required Education, Skills, and ExperienceEducation: Ph.D. in synthetic organic chemistry or related scientific discipline plus 12+ years' experience or Masters Degree in synthetic organic chemistry or related scientific discipline plus 15+ years' experience.

Direct people management experience required.Medicinal chemistry experience in biotech/pharma; ideally, as a key contributor in the identification of compounds that have entered pre-clinical development.Deep knowledge of synthetic organic and medicinal chemistry disciplines Demonstrated proficiency in the synthesis of small molecules Advanced knowledge and experience training others in use of laboratory equipment (eg, LCMS, HPLC, Flash Chromatography, NMR, microwave) Demonstrated proficiency in solving medicinal chemistry challenges Strong knowledge of protein-ligand interactions and application of this knowledge in Structure-Based Drug Design (SBDD) Expertise in the interpretation, analysis, documentation, and presentation of key findings Effective training, mentoring and professional development of more junior staff Ability to take initiative and lead other laboratory scientists by example and influence Experience supervising laboratory work and personnel to ensure safe laboratory practices Ability to manage CRO and internal teams to maximize productivity Effective organizational, interpersonal, communication and managerial skills Excellent written and oral communication skills Ability to communicate technical and cross-functional data to diverse audiences Creates networks with key decision makers to influence company scientific strategy This position is laboratory based and may be required to be on-site up to 5 days a week.Relocation available.

The expected salary range for this position is $152,250.00 - $200,000.00. Actual pay will be determined based on experience, qualifications, location, and other job-related factors permitted by law. A discretionary annual bonus may be available based on individual and Company performance.
