Software Development Manager (remote) (Full Time)

Location: Dallas - Fort Worth Texas Country: United States of America Rate: 125K

The Software Development Manager manages and oversees the design and development of software applications. Directs the work of Software Engineers to ensure the best practices around software development. Manages subordinate staff in the day-to-day performance of their jobs. Ensures that project/department milestones/goals are met and adhering to approved budgets. Has full authority for personnel actions. Extensive knowledge of department processes. Typically reports to a Senior Manager. Position is remote for the unforeseeable future due to the Covid-19 restrictions. Position could become on-site in the future so candidates will need to reside in any of the following cities: Dallas/Fort Worth, TX; Baltimore, MD; Denver, CO; Cleveland, OH or New York, NY.


  • Able to lead a small group of developers.

  • Participate in onboarding employees and establishing an acceptable training plan

  • Attend meetings pertaining to estimates and planning for project work.

  • Provide accurate estimates based on developer time

  • Able to escalate up to manager or speak up to BAs regarding resource issues or unreasonable timelines

  • Communicate closely with Business Analyst on project(s) you are responsible for

  • Establish clear expectations with BA over SDLC and resource availability

  • Able to diagnose performance issues using tools like Dynatrace

  • Help enforce code quality and architecture

  • Assist with establishing code review responsibility across the group

  • Communicate with other supervisors regarding architectural trends and improvements

  • Establish some level of consistent architecture between other supervisors

  • Review and approve DB scripts into production

  • Report project and team status up to manager on consistent basis

  • Understand and support all aspects of SDLC

  • Teach employees all DB/App environments

  • Know when and when not to escalate push issues to proper contacts

  • Teach proper protocol towards updating work items/tickets/submitting scripts

  • Communicate clearly, politely, and professionally across all company employees

  • Help establish clear goals and expectations for team members

  • Review team on a quarterly basis and report on staff to manager

  • Keep consistent tabs on employee attendance and performance

  • Clearly communicate vision of group and build team values

  • Manage employees time-off schedules via Workday/Approve Time Off

  • Able to set work ethic example for the rest of the team

  • Able to help team with code issues when necessary

  • Able to put build branches together in Git and manage merge conflicts

  • Able to effectively manage and organize multiple priorities

  • Handle all e-mail, IM, phone communication promptly and effectively


  • B.S. degree in Computer Science, Engineering or a related field (preferred)

  • Excellent critical thinking and problem-solving skills

  • Effectively communicate issues with software and propose solutions

  • 2+ years of prior management/supervision experience

  • Experience in writing clear, concise and comprehensive test plans and test cases

  • Understanding of one or more high level programming languages preferred

  • Be able to work independently and with a team

  • C# and .NET Framework


  • Microsoft SQL Server

  • JavaScript Framework - JQuery, Angular, React

  • Git version control

  • Microsoft Azure DevOps (formerly VSTS/TFS)

  • Continuous Integration/Continuous Delivery

  • Agile team experience
