Our client, a leading law firm with 950 attorneys in 14 U.S. locations, is seeking a Payroll and Accounting Specialist who will have contact with all levels of staff.

Specific duties include the following:

  • Process, calculate and post a variety of payroll actions including, but not limited to, wage garnishments, benefits withholding, and child support orders.
  • Ensure all payroll-related remittances and filings are processed timely and accurately and that the accounting for these transactions is correct.
  • Audit payroll documentation for accuracy through designated reports and make any necessary adjustments, once necessary approvals are obtained.
  • Communicate with the Human Resources Department to ensure the integrity of the payroll data including data related to new hires, terminations, transfers, and rate changes.
  • Process system updates as necessary.
  • Research and resolve questions from managers and employees as they relate to the processing of payroll information such as, banking, garnishments, payroll deductions, retroactive pay calculations, tax questions, and other changes.
  • Prepare and manage payroll reports and create ad hoc reports of payroll data to support payroll processes and financial analysis requests by the Payroll Manager & Accounts Receivable Manager.
  • Maintain payroll records according to retention regulations and legal requirements.
  • Provide reports and data to auditors, as requested by Payroll & Accounts Receivable Manager or Controller.
  • Update payroll system with new hire, term, salary, personal, and other information.
  • Interact with all departments to ensure accurate payroll information is received in a timely manner.
  • Assist in special projects as assigned by the Payroll & Accounts Receivable Manager or Controller.


  • Bachelor's degree and 3-5 years of experience of payroll processing; or equivalent combination of education, training and experience may substitute for education requirement.
  • General knowledge of accounting principles and audition and internal control concepts.
  • Interpersonal communication skills necessary to maintain effective relationships and respond to common inquires or complaints from partners, attorneys, clients and staff.
  • Ability to interact effectively with attorneys and other key personnel; to manage and exceed expectations; and to exhibit a high degree of responsiveness, diplomacy and professionalism in these interactions.
  • Ability to read, comprehend and write simple instructions, short correspondence, complex reports and memos.
  • Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as discounts, proportions and percentages, and apply concepts such as fractions, percentages, ratios, and proportions to practical situations.
  • Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts and draw valid conclusions.
  • High level proficiency with Microsoft applications, specifically, Outlook, Excel and Microsoft Word.
