Keeping Turkey and Santa in Perspective

Those of us who coach job seekers realize that the biggest challenge this time of year is to keep your job search momentum in tact. Though we don't dare admit to it, sometimes it's equally difficult for job search coaches to keep our motors humming. And we should know better! Still, ultimately, most of us refuse to be blinded by Christmas lights.

For some apparent and not so apparent reasons, everything each of us works so hard to achieve during the year tends to be abandoned in November and December. Don't believe it? Get on the scale on New Year's Eve!

Job search is a direct momentum play. It takes time and work to gather speed and consistency. Year-round we fight discouragement, disappointment and self-doubt. But if we manage to keep traveling down the sometimes rocky road and stay focused, we ultimately reach our new employers.

November and December can really be distractions. Oh I'm all in favor of celebrating the holidays but not to the diversion of completing the mission...getting you hired! So next time you mistakenly are led to believe that no one gets hired during Christmas or Thanksgiving, think again! Companies don't close their doors, only distracted job seekers abandon their sense of purpose, leaving glorious opportunities for those who choose to persevere.

CareerBoard's Job Search Professional Featured in New Book for Baby Boomers

(COLUMBUS, OH)- Janice Worthington, owner of Worthington Career Services and CareerBoard's professional job coach, has been selected from among hundreds of professional resume writers across the nation to contribute samples of her work to Expert Resumes for Baby Boomers, a new book by professional resume writers Wendy Enelow and Louise Kursmark.

"The authors invited hundreds of career professionals to submit samples of their best work for consideration. They chose to include Worthington's work because of the quality of the writing and formatting, and how well her work demonstrates the best strategies for people in mid- or late-career transition," said Lori Cates Hand, Trade Product Manager for JIST Publishing.
