A Message From The President
During my thirty-five year career in the energy industry, I have experienced the evolution of renewable energy technology. Along the way, the drivers have been energy independence and the preservation of our planet.
In the 1970s, motivated by the oil embargo, the energy conservation mantra established by President Jimmy Carter was “Wear a sweater and turn down the thermostat.” In the 1980s, energy conservation technology included energy management systems, variable speed drives and florescent lighting. However, renewable energy technology was still in its infancy.
In the 1990s, renewable energy awareness was growing, fueled by high energy prices and the political unrest in the Middle East oil producing regions. Then the new millennium ushered in further sustainable energy awareness, with global warming and climate change issues coming to the forefront.
Renewable energy technology was up and coming, being led by the establishment of government incentives for homeowners and businesses for solar photovoltaic and solar thermal technologies. Greater demand for solar technology ushered in economies of scale at the manufacturing level, and solar energy became affordable and a good investment, for the home and business owner. With lucrative government incentives for installing solar energy systems, building owners are today experiencing impressive returns on their energy investments.
